Your child, your responsibility.
Did you know that 41 children aged 9 years old and under drowned in 2010 in Australia? Drowning deaths in swimming pools increased by 35% last year of the 5 year average1. You can help prevent child drownings in Australia, and it starts here. Watch Around Water is a program developed and run to minimise the drowning of Australian children by educating parents and lifeguards of their roles around public pools.
A child's safety is ultimately the responsibility of the parent or guardian as lifeguards are employed on a 1:100 ratio and are not employed to be babysitters. For a more detailed explanation of Watch Around Water, visit the 'About' page.

Brenton Ragless - our new SA Ambassador.
Brenton Ragless is most commonly recognised as the weeknight weather presenter on Channel 9 News, but he has also agreed to come on board as the Ambassador for the Watch Around Water program in South Australia. Prior to working as the weekday weather presenter on Channel 9, Brenton had earned national exposure in providing commentary on fires and other disasters as a media spokesperson for the SA Country Fire Service as well as a fire and emergencies reporter for ABC Radio. Born in South Australia, he has completed a Masters Degree in Communication Management, a Diploma of Business in Tourism and an extensive list of emergency management modules.
Often taking part in many community and corporate events around the state, Brenton will be officially launching the WAW program for this summer at the 2011 State Aquatic Conference run by Recreation SA in September. As the program aims to reduce the drowning of young children in public pools, promotion and support is a fundamental part of getting the Watch Around Water message heard. We look forward to working with Brenton.
